The mission of the Metro St. Louis Foreclosure Intervention Task Force is to develop and implement strategies that decrease the number of foreclosures in order to preserve homeownership for families and stabilize neighborhoods in the St. Louis region.
In 2005, Beyond Housing, working with the Federal Reserve Bank of St. Louis and many other community partners, recognized that foreclosures in the St. Louis Metro Area were on the rise and made a commitment to try to do something about it.
They formed the Metro St. Louis Foreclosure Intervention Task Force and began holding monthly meetings to create a plan of action. In late 2005 a study was conducted by the University of Missouri Public Policy Research Center on foreclosure trends in the St. Louis area: where they were occurring and how they were impacting the region.
With this study as a guide, the task force decided to adopt a regional and a focused neighborhood approach. Regionally, the task force works to reach out to homeowners and encourage them to call for help as soon as they get into trouble by calling the United Way's 24 hour helpline at 211 or 800-427-4626.Homeowner outreach efforts are underway to educate homeowners and service providers about foreclosure prevention resources. If you would like a representative from the task force to come out and speak to your community organization or church group please contact us through the website.
The task force meets on the 3rd Thursday of each month at 10:00 am (except August and December). There are several committees that are addressing various aspects of the foreclosure crisis: Marketing and Education, Legislation and Research, and Neighborhood Stabilization. If you are interested in volunteering on one of the committees or receiving additional information you can email us at Contact Us.
